About the Inn

Welcome to the Inn of the Seasons

This stately landmark has stood prominently on Seneca Turnpike for more than 200 years. Mentioned in the book Architecture Worth Saving, this remarkable limestone building is described in Onondaga Landmarks as “one of the finest of the early homes in this area.”

The General Hutchinson House is the sole site in the Town of Onondaga listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), holding a unique status among the county’s historic properties.

Built in the early 1800s, the home was originally owned by Orrin and Susan Hutchinson. Orrin Hutchinson served as Supervisor of the Town of Onondaga from 1829 to 1831 and also held the rank of Brigadier General in the State Militia, from which the home earned its enduring name, the “General Hutchinson House.”

Upon Orrin’s death in 1842, the house was acquired by Ezra Downer and remained in the Downer family until 1944. Between 1944 and 1963, the home passed through five separate owners, most notably Alfred S. Wright, a well-known Syracuse druggist. When the Wright’s acquired the home in 1945 it had been vacant for some time. Lacking upstairs windows, heat and plumbing.  Mr. and Mrs. Wright, with great patience and devotion, restored the home to its former beauty.

In 1963, retired Air Force Major Earl Fischer purchased the property and added a restaurant to the rear of the building without disturbing the integrity of the original structure. In 1972, Tom Popp, former owner of the Yates Hotel, purchased the property and operated it as the Yates–General Hutchinson House restaurant until 1977. From 1977 to 1988, the restaurant continued to operate as the General Hutchinson Headquarters.

A new chapter, our story, began in 1989. Under the watchful eye and careful guidance of Carl A. Marino, Esq. (1928–2016), our family-owned and operated restaurant, The Inn of the Seasons, opened its doors.

Over the years, we have carefully preserved the character and history of this remarkable building while thoughtfully introducing modern touches. With pride, dedication, and a commitment to hospitality, we continue to provide exceptional food and attentive service in one of the Town of Onondaga’s most unique and picturesque settings.
